Urban Troubadour

Mijn nieuw brei-ontwerp, Urban Troubadour, is klaar. Deze kap die ook als schouderwarmer-col kan gedragen worden is op de middeleeuwse kaproen geïnspireerd maar dan in een hedendaagse versie. Urban Troubadour kan zowel door een man als door een vrouw gedragen worden.  Het wordt in de vorm van  een brei-kit gepresenteerd in samenwerking met Renaissance Dyeing. Deze wolleverancier uit de Franse Pyrenëen is gespecialiseerd in organische wol geverfd met plantaardige kleurstoffen. De planten die gebruikt werden om deze biologische Dorset Poll wol te verven zijn wede en meekrap, deze kleurstoffen werden al in de Middeleeuwen gebruikt. Deze kit wordt in Londen op de volgende Knitnation beurs in juli gepresenteerd, samen met nog een aantal andere brei-kit projecten, gecrëerd door een vijftal ontwerpers uit verschillende continenten.


My new knit design is ready. This capelet/cowl/hood, can be worn by both sexes. Urban Troubadour is inspired by Medieval Times but with a modern feel to it. Knitted in six shades of an organic 4-ply Dorset Poll, spun from sheep raised in France and plant dyed by Renaissance Dyeing in the French Pyrenees. These shades are dyed with the plants woad and with madder that would have grown wild and used for dyeing in the Middle ages.
The design will be part of a knitting kit, made in collaboration with Renaissance Dyeing.   Together with other knit designs from 4 different designers world-wide, this knitting kit will be presented during the London Knitnation this July.

De kruidentuin wacht, net als elk levend wezen hier, dat de lente nu eindelijk van start gaat. Maar net nu is de labyrint-vorm het duidelijkst zichtbaar. Binnen een paar maanden zie je vanop deze plek alleen maar één grote bont-groene geheel. Alleen diegenen die zich dan wagen op de spiralerende paden zullen de magische kracht van het labyrint ondergaan en zullen ingewijd worden in de geheimen der kruiden.


The herbal garden is still waiting for spring, like all the rest of us here. The pattern of the labyrinth is visible now but in a few months it will seemingly disappear under a big multicolored carpet and only the brave who wonder down the spiraling garden paths will feel the power of the labyrinth and discover the true secrets of herbs.

women and earrings

Women who love to wear big earrings probably also:

- like to play the frame drum or tar or tambourine or would like to learn how.

- know that ritme is the most important thing when trying: to dance, to sing, to love, to live and to connect with Otherness.

- want to let their hair grow, even when they get older. Because they believe that there is some strange strength in hair. They also like to knot their hair, because they know knots have special magical force, that’s why they also like macramé (and crochet and knitting and weaving and spinning etc…), they also, strangely enough, like to work out the knots and tangles in a ball of messy yarn.

- like to dye their hair with henna or other herbal dyestuff.

- like to work with plants, because plants are their friends and teachers for medicine, colours and connections with Otherness.

- love, love, love trees and feel very, very, very sad and angry when some imbecile human being cuts one down for the most stupid reasons.

- can’t feel happy if not surrounded by colours, working with colours or creating with colours. They wear black only when their cat died and only for a very short period. Cats and other felines plays an important part in their lives and if there is one in their neighborhood, they know how to talk and communicate with him/her.

- know all the secrets of Tarot or want to know all about it, even if they won’t admit it to other people. Yet.

- are inclined to let their intuition speak when there are important decisions to make in their lives, not sure though if it always work.

- can’t sleep at nights when it’s the full Moon. Because they love to watch the movements of the moon I guess.

- know that live originates in the darkness of the womb, therefore they are not really afraid of darkness but wonder about it, even if they don’t fully understand it yet.

- like the number 13, because … well, there are thirteen moons in one earth year of course.

- always feel strangely attracted to spirals, labyrinths and snake symbols. Because those symbols are at the root of all movements of life itself and the universe.

- know with absolute certainty that Earth is a living, nurturing being and Mother of all.

Oorbellen en gieren

Ik ben een echte oorbellen-freak, ik zal het huis niet gemakkelijk verlaten zonder.
Om 's morgens beter te kunnen kiezen heb ik enkele van mijn favorieten van het moment aan mijn badkamergordijntje gehangen.
Sommige heb ik al heel lang, enkelen zijn nieuw, de meeste maak ik zelf.

Net toen deze foto genomen werd, vloog er over het huis een kolonie gieren. Deze merkwaardige grote vogels werden een paar jaar geleden hier in de streek terug uitgezet, met succes. Heel indrukwekkend !

troubadour

Ik heb een prototype gemaakt voor mijn troubadour ontwerp, de uiteindelijke versie zal er anders uitzien,want toch totaal andere kleuren, ik ga toch ook nogal wat aanpassingen doen, de col moet veel langer worden en de motieven moeten iets meer "middeleeuws" worden.
